教學助理(TA)制度:一項強化通識教學專業的利器

Teaching Assistant (TA) System: An Effective Approach to Reinforcing Teaching Proficiency of General Education

摘要


本文不打算全面討論TA制度的利弊得失,而是想凸顯TA制度在通識教學與執行優質通識課程計劃時所扮演的功能:一種增進通識教師專業,並改變學生被動學習心態的教學利器。一位稱職的教學助理可以協助教師開發更能貼進學生屬性的專題,提高學生們的學習意願;一位認真投入的教學助理可以展現出比教師更高的親和力,除了作為老師和學生之問的溝通橋樑外,還能激發學生的討論意願與製作專題潛能。如果一位授課教師能善用TA制度中的這項功能,必能在教學與課堂經營上收事半功倍之效,於此時,TA不再只是在課堂中處理瑣碎雜事的「工讀生」,而是真正能夠在教學上提供協助的「教學助理」!

The goal of this study is to point up the functions of Teaching Assistant (TA) System- an effective approach to advance lecturers' teaching proficiency and alter students' passive learning attitude- in general education and successful program planning instead of involving extensive discussion on the pros and cons of the system. With the aid of the conscientious Teaching Assistants, lecturers can create projects which suit students better. Moreover, the diligent and dedicated Teaching Assistants not only express a higher level of intimacy than lecturers, playing as a role to bridge communication barriers between lecturers and students; but also encourage class participation and unlock student potential of project production. A lecturer who masters the art of TA can achieve satisfactory outcomes of efficient teaching and lecturing techniques. With proper use of the system, the functions of TA can be defined more precisely as ”Teaching Assistant” in terms of giving overall teaching support to lecturers rather than ”Part-Time Job Student” dealing with trivial in class.
