Pairwise key establishment is a fundamental security service for sensor networks. However, establishing pairwise key in sensor networks is a challenging problem, due to the resource constraints on nodes and the threat of node capture. In this paper, disjoint and association sub-key pools based on backward key chains are created, and a pairwise key establishment scheme on the basis of these sub-key pools for multiple deployment sensor networks (MDSNs) is proposed. Through detailed analysis, we show that our scheme achieves high local connectivity with a low storage overhead, and has higher network resilience against node capture as compared to other existing schemes for MDSNs.
