Teaching Chinese Language and Culture in the U.S. under the Internationalized Setting: Reflections on My Teaching Experience

In an internationalized generation, one's language ability represents one's ability to compete significantly. Chinese, along with China's economic take-off, has undoubtedly become an important international language besides English. Taiwan is where Chinese is used dominantly, and where traditional Chinese culture is best preserved. In order to win a place in the trend of internationalization, how we should take advantage of Taiwan's language and culture is worth our effort and exploration. As a language teacher, the author would like to exchange and share with those who are current Chinese language and culture teachers in Taiwan, those who run teacher-training courses, and those who would consider teaching Chinese language and culture as a career in the U.S. the following four aspects: the author's experience in teaching Chinese language and culture, the factors which bring about the Chinese learning fever, the professionalism and qualifications of Chinese language and culture teachers, and the perfection of professionalism and familiarization of teaching techniques.
