The characteristics of the current society are industrialism and individualism. Different types of families have presented and the roles of parenting have changed. Thus, people may lace a variety of parenting problems. This article applied a methodology outlined by Walker and Avant to analyze the concept of parenting. Based on Walker and Avant, the defining attribution of parenting includes taking care of children, regulating the behaviors of children, providing an environment to promote children's development, and establishing the relationship between parents and children. This article also clarified the concept of parenting in depth by using model, contrary, and borderline cases as well as explores the antecedents and consequences. Furthermore, this article cited the empirical references with the nursing application that may help pediatric nurses to understand the concept of parenting in advance and then assist the parents and the nurses to solve the parenting problems and promote the relationship between parents and children.
