Ever since Hu Jintao was in power, China has accelerated the cross-strait economic and social exchanges as a way to win over Taiwan people and suppress the independence movement in Taiwan. Besides, after the consecutive visits by Lien Chan and James Soong to China, the Beijing government has taken even more aggressive measures to reinforce such intent. As a result of a series of these intended actions, the sense of hostility originally held by Taiwan people toward China has been obviously reduced. Should this phenomenon continue, after some while, it will create some similar pro-China sentiments in Taiwan people that ”China is not a hostile country” and, even more, ”China is a favor-giving motherland.” In the future, if Taiwan is getting more reliant on China politically and economically, Taiwan's sovereignty will be seriously jeopardized.
