Yaoshan is an important watch site for monitoring autumn raptor migration in Taitung, south-eastern Taiwan. In 2003, in addition to autumn survey, spring survey was also conducted for the first time. A total of 239 raptors from 10 species were recorded in spring from 2/18 to 5/10. A total of 46,793 of raptors from 14 species were recorded in autumn from 8/30 to 10/12. The most numerous species were Chinese Goshawk(Accipiter soloensis), Grey-faced Buzzard(Butastur indicus), and Oriental Honey Buzzard (Pernis ptilorbyncus).
