This is the second year's report of the three-year Mountain Hawk-eagle (Spizaetus nipalensis) population-censusing project, funded by Taiwan Forest Bureau and Taitung Forest District Office. The objective of this year is to determine the distribution of Mountain Hawkeagle in Taitung County, southeastern Taiwan and examine the relationship between its distribution and environment factors using a geographic information system. The data used in this study were from a raptor survey conducted from January 2004 to November 2005. We found records of Mountain Hawk-eagle ranging from low to high elevations with the highest frequency between 1000 and 2000 m. Among all types of vegetation and land-use patterns, most records of Mountain Hawk-eagle occurred in natural forests, followed by plantations.
