Frequent urination is a common symptom in women. Various causes including physiological frequent urination, psychological factors and urinary bladder dysfunction can result in frequent urination. Two cases of female frequent urination are discussed in this article. One is a 42-year-old female who was diagnosed with overactive urinary bladder with involuntary contraction of detrusor; the other is a 57-year-old female who has a history of anemia and deficiency of both qi and blood. Although both cases are diagnosed with frequent urination, different herbal formulas are prescribed based on different pattern differentiations according to traditional Chinese medicine theory. Thus, the results are satisfactory. In conclusion, the use of anti-acetylcholine often results in side effects such as dry mouth and constipation, and reoccurrence upon withdrawal. The two cases reaches better efficacy by using traditional Chinese medicine with no side effect.
