Nursing students generally have a negative attitude toward older adults. Preparing nurses to meet the care needs of an expanding aging population is a challenge for nursing educators. The purpose of the current study was to explore whether incorporating music therapy into a practical geriatric nursing course at a nursing home cultivates positive attitudes toward older adults, raises students ' willingness to work with older adults , and increases their interest in specializing in gerontological nursing after graduation. Forty second-year nursing students in a 4-year baccalaureate program from central Taiwan were enrolled. Students in the elective gerontological nursing course met 2 hours per week for 18 weeks and learned how to design health-promoting activities for older adults. The attitudes toward older adults and willingness to work with older adults were measured at beginning of the course and 18 weeks after the course completed. Results suggested music can be integrated into a gerontological nursing course to enhance students' motivation to learn, empathize, and approach older adults.
