Taiwan semiconductor industry is a completed supply chain and each sub-industry has an important position in the worldwide market. However, Taiwan's market share of electronic design automation (EDA) tools is extremely low. As the complexity of IC design and manufacturing technologies evolve, the reliance on EDA tools boosts. Facing the trend of IC Foundry transformation, Taiwan government is planning to develop EDA industry and expect to make Taiwan semiconductor industry more competitive. The purpose of this research is to understand the key successful factors (KSFs) of the EDA industry. Therefore, this paper used Michael E. Porter's diamond model of national competitive advantage as the main structure. Through the interview and literature review, an aggregate of 69 potential success factors for EDA industry was collected. Through the questionnaires and Factor Analysis, 13 key success factors were identified out of the 69 factors. Then the 13 key success factors were combined into the corresponding dimensions of the diamond model. The decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method was applied to visualize and construct the interrelation among dimensions in the diamond model. The findings of this research can provide development direction for Taiwanese EDA companies and government technology policy makers.
