The Clinical Effect of Electro-Acupuncture Combined with Warm-Needling in the Treatment of Simple Obesity

摘要

Background:Obesity is a result of energy imbalance in which absorption is greater than consumption. Excess body fat accumulation is the direct result. Other clinical symptoms include raised body temperature and over-perspiration, decreased motor movements, muscle exhaustion, fatigue, and psychological and psychiatric abnormalities. The condition usually is categorized into two main types: simple obesity and consequential obesity. The former usually does not constitute any neurological, hormonal or organic disorder, but could possess glucose and fatty acid metabolic problems. Obesity greatly affects one's quality of life and lowers his/her living standards.Purpose:To investigate the clinical effect of using electro-acupuncture with warm needling method in the treatment of simple obesity.Method: A total of 120 simple obese patients were randomly divided into treatment and control groups; each containing 60 patients. Results: After 3 courses of treatment, there were a total of 57 patients in the treatment group; 25 were clinically recovered, 25 were very effective, 14 were effective and 3 were ineffective, with a total effective rate of 94.74%. There were a total of 58 patients in the control group; 6 were clinically recovered, 25 were very effective, 21 were effective and 8 were ineffective, with a total effective rate of 87.93%. The results in the groups were analyzed by the Ridit test, and was found that they were statistically different (p<0.05). The treatment group had a more significant overall therapeutic effect. Likewise, the total effective rate in the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (p<0.05), as tested by the Chi-square test. Conclusions: Treating simple obese patients with electro-acupuncture and warm needling is clinically effective.
