Qi-deficiency cold is caused by Qi insufficiency and an invasion of exogenous pathogenic factors that are not easily eliminated. It is characterized by recurrent attacks and refractory treatments. The efficacy of taking cold medicines or diaphoretic Chinese medicines for treating Qi-deficiency colds is usually poor. Clinical manifestations of Qi-deficiency colds are Qi insufficiency and the exuberance of exogenous pathogenic factors, while the key problem is Qi insufficiency. Therefore, doctors should identify what kind of Qi-deficiency cold a patient caught (i.e., syndrome of spleen-Qi deficiency, syndrome of lung-Qi deficiency, syndrome of spleen-Qi and lung-Qi deficiency, or syndrome of Qi deficiency combined with Qi depression), and increase the patient’s level of Qi to promote his function of immune system in order to achieve better results.
