This case report presented a 63-year-old male with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension with heart failure, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hepatitis B and liver cirrhosis. He hospitalized three times because of remittent fever and asthma, exhibiting acute renal damage during the second hospitalization. He did not recover from the ill completely and was diagnosed as suffering from the third stage chronic renal disease. He came to visit our department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for help due to third degree of bilateral lower leg edema. According to the theory of TCM, the distribution of the fluids within human body is related to the lung, spleen, and kidney; therefore, we treated him with the principles of diuresis through warming the kidney, nourishing Chi to invigorate spleen, and promoting blood circulation for removing obstruction in collaterals. We thought that the therapeutic efficacy of the case was good and could be taken as a reference with regard to similar cases for clinicians.
