There is currently a trend toward community-driven psychiatric medical services. In Taiwan, chronic psychiatric patients' community medical services and rehabilitation are always topics to which importance is attached by the psychiatric medical field. This article shows the importance of these issues and the nature of their development by reviewing the history of the community psychiatric rehabilitation movement, proposing core ideas and care principles for psychiatric rehabilitation organizations on the basis of the authors' participation in processes of evaluation of rehabilitation organizations for psychiatric rehabilitation accreditation. We hope that this article can promote professional reflection and serve as a reference in policy making and clinical care in the future.
