This paper aims to describe the nursing experience of caring for a repeatedly - hospitalized patient who had a recurrent bipolar disorder due to lack of compliance with medication. During the nursing period from June 19 to July 29 in 2013, a holistic nursing assessment was undertaken through observations and conversations. The health problems were identified as follows: high risk of violence, thinking disorder, and lack of compliance with medication. The intervention strategies included applying the concept of sticking to medication, developing an individualized nursing plan that met the patient’s needs, and establishing a trustworthy relationship to understand the patient's medical history, and further to view and perceive how the treatment and long-term medications would have an impact on him. We, thereby, assisted the patient in actively receiving medication and maintaining health, and subsequent outpatient follow-ups and telephone interviews were also conducted during August 5 and October 31 in 2013. The cooperation between the nurse and patient effectively improved the quality of care and enabled the patient to remain in the community as long as possible.
