The purpose of this article is to discuss a nursing experience using music therapy for a chronic schizophrenic patient. The duration of care was from September 15th to December 16th, 2012. Through the ways of interviews and observation with full nursing evaluation to collect information from the patient who was determined to have several nursing problems, such as anxiety, disturbed sensory perception(auditory hallucination), impaired social interaction. During the nursing process, Passive therapy was strategically used, combining empathetic listening skill with individual music therapy. A plan and goal can be built up according to the needs of the patient with complete evaluation, urging him to face and to deal with problems related to the disease which can be effectively controlled. After being discharged from the hospital, the patient's condition was monitored via telephone follow-ups and home visits. It was discovered that the patient was able to continue having their emotion in control; in addition, music therapy also helped the patient stabilize interference symptoms and obtain physical and mental comfort. Furthermore, the patient would recover from the social function and quality of life and would further have his pressure of caring for his family members lessened.
