Patient-centered care, a global indicator of medical quality, is a key component in the improvement of health-care quality in Taiwan. To improve the quality of future medical care, current medical education prioritizes cultivating students' ability to provide patient-centered care. The Human Library project, which was first introduced in Denmark in 2000, focuses on combating prejudice by promoting dialogue between individuals who might not typically interact; the project's objective is to improve mutual understanding and overcome barriers. This concept involves the creation of an environment in which people from diverse backgrounds and cultures can gather to share their stories and experiences. Nursing students often face challenges in understanding the disease experiences of patients with mental health problems and the difficulties associated with the treatment and rehabilitation of these patients. To provide patient-centered care, nursing students should practice empathy and "learn from patients" to understand their disease experiences. In nursing education, human library has recently emerged as a strategy for providing students with a unique learning experience. This strategy improves students' empathy, cultural sensitivity, and interpersonal interaction skills and promotes collaboration among professionals. However, the implementation of this strategy in nursing education is challenging because of some obstacles. Finding individuals who are willing to serve as human books is difficult. Furthermore, protecting their privacy and training them to serve as human books must be addressed. Nevertheless, creating a human library and designing effective teaching strategies may improve the understanding of nursing students about patients' needs and experiences and enhance the quality of nursing care.
