興起中的亞洲聖經學：亞洲對昔日聖經研究的展望

摘要

本文嘗試從亞洲的觀點，在給定的「興起中的亞洲」的脈絡中，預測聖經研究的未來可能發展。在西方文明、現代性的計畫和全球化的現實的精神中，本文首先將簡短地聚焦於關於亞洲的過去、現在和將來的社會經濟、政治、宗教、民族和文化面向。接著，本文快速地檢討聖經研究在亞洲的過去和現在的歷史，為要預測聖經研究在興起中的亞洲的前景。筆者認為，假設聖經研究要在亞洲的學術中引起研究的興趣與學者的關切，聚焦於「公共的相關性」乃是必要之舉。本文也列舉出對於興起中的亞洲脈絡饒富趣味、並且與聖經研究密切相關的研究領域、現代主題和觀念。

This essay probes at the potential future development of the discipline of Biblical Studies from an Asian perspective, within the given context of a ”rising Asia.” It will first provide a brief focus on the socioeconomic, political, religious, ethnicity and cultural aspects of the Asia past, present and future within the Geist of the Western civilization, the project of modernity and the current reality of globalization. Then it reviews briefly on the short history of the discipline of biblical studies in Asia past and present, leading to a projection on the future of the biblical past in the rising Asia. It argues that a focus on the ”public relevance” of the discipline is necessary if the discipline is to arouse research interest and intellectual concern among the academia in Asia. It also provides a short list of research areas, modern themes and concepts that are of interest to the rising Asian contexts and also closely related to biblical studies.
