If falls occur during hospitalization, it can cause injury to patient's body, prolonging hospital stays, increasing medical costs, leading to medical disputes, increasing health care workers' work load and influencing job satisfaction. This project aims to reduce fall in the hospitalized children. According to fall records in the ward, the reasons of fall in children are mainly due to: the children's characteristics, inadequate safety equipment and decreased alertness of caregivers. From the literatures, three strategies were used to reduce the rate of fall in hospitalized children including improving standards for nursing education, availability of useful tools and improving ward facilities. By implementing the above strategies, the rate of fall of hospitalized children dropped from 0.16% to 0.06%. The purpose of this project has achieved by maintaining the basic needs of safety in children during hospitalization, and therefore the quality of nursing care has improved.
