This article describes the nursing care of a patient who had sigmoid colon cancer and liver metastasis and underwent liver tumor resection. The period was from October 31 to November 8, 2011. From the conversation with the patient, it was noted that she was struggling with preoperative anxiety, risks of infection, acute pain that were monitored by checking with laboratory reports, the final pathology report, and Gordon's functional health patterns. In response to these questions providing appropriate nursing care, the measures taken were to give preoperative information on surgery-related processes and teach relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety before surgery; provide infection prevention techniques and recognize signs of wound infection, in order to prevent infection during hospitalization situations. If having postoperative wound pain, the patient would be provided the pain relief methods to improve the wound discomfort. Learning from this nursing care in this case could become a reference for other clinical nursing staffs.
