Scoping reviews are increasingly used as distinct activities of systematic review with unique functions to enhance nursing knowledge development. This article explains the definition and the purposes of scoping review, the definition of PCC, the differences between scoping reviews and systematic reviews, and illustrates content of each step based on the scoping review protocol. The author presents two examples of scoping reviews to promote the consistence of the purposes, PPC, the procedure and the contributions of the studies. The goal is to provide a clear concept of scoping review for readers to use, to develop, and to create nursing knowledge in the future.
