Fuzzy logic based traffic signal control of a junction group

Fuzzy logic based traffic junction signal controller (TJSC) design has been studied for years. Most approaches have been based on a single arterial road with either single or multiple junctions. In this study, fuzzy logic approach that deals with TJSC for traffic junction groups as an expert system was presented. The proposed method was applicable to junction groups with arbitrary topology. Two junction groups, with 2×2 and 3×3 topologies, were used in the experiment to compare the performances of the proposed method with that of the fixed-ratio approach. The results showed the better performance of the proposed fuzzy logic-based TJSC.
