In the 21(superscript st) Century, Chinese education in universities has become more professionalized with the great improvements in teaching materials, methodologies, and educators. During the freshmen year, Chinese is in the basic curriculum of general education while Chinese reading and expression are regarded as the core competencies of university students. Universities in Taiwan all put great emphasis on Chinese curriculum planning. This paper uses personal experience in the execution of ”Chinese: Life Aesthetics and Literacy Interpretation” under the Quality General Education Program of the Advisory Office of Ministry of Education. It uses an example to explain methods for incorporating Chinese teaching objectives into the spirit of general education, material preparation and contents, teaching procedure and strategy, assignment design and diversified evaluation to respond to Chinese education reforms carried over the past two decades in Taiwan.
