Purpose: This study investigated how Roger Federer's (briefly as Federer) sport performance skills, including serve, serve return, volley, and groundstroke, different from his opponents. Methods: The research subjects were Federer's opponents who got into the third round in Australian Open. And then analyzed by using descriptive statistics, the variables of serve skill, serve return skill, volley skill, and groundstroke skill in this research help to show details of Federer's performance from 2005 to 2018. In addition, this research used the non-parameter Mann - Whitney U test, to test whether there were significant differences between the skills of Federer and those of his opponents. Results: Federer's performance skills such as first serve in percentage, first serve points won rate, fastest serve speed, average speed of first serve, and average speed of second serve had been stable from 2005 to 2018. Federer's performance was significantly better than his opponents in terms of his skills such as serve (ACE, Double Faults, first serve points won rate, second serve points won rate, average speed of second serve), serve return (return games won rate, return points won rate), volley (net points won rate), and groundstroke (winners point) (p < .05). Conclusion: Federer's performance was significantly better than his opponents in terms the amount of ACE, Double Faults, first serve points won rate, second serve points won rate, average speed of second serve, return games won rate, return points won rate, net points won, and winner points.
