Surgical Mask Wearing During Radiotherapy for Head and Neck Cancer Patient in COVID-19 Pandemic

Objective: During the COVID-19 epidemic, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect and feasibility of treatment position accuray with surgical masks in head and neck cancer patients. Methods: A total 32 patients set-up error data with S-type immobilization decive were collected by using X-Ray Volume Imaging system with registered images and then the t-test was analyzed by set-up error data whether it was statistically significant difference. Results: The set-up error of 21 patients without surgical masks were 0.8±0.7mm,1.2±1.0mm, 0.8±0.8mm, x, y, and z translational directions ,respectively, while the set-up error of 11 patients with surgical masks were 0.8±0.8mm, 1.8±1.0mm, 1.3± 1.1mm, x, y, and z translational directions, respectively, there were insignificant difference between the two groups (p value>0.05). Conclusions: Head and neck cancer patients with surgical mask are feasibility by using S-type immobilization decive during radiation therapy, it is suggested that protected staffs for the departments as well as the accuracy treatment position for the patients.
