Revival and Innovation of Classical Chinese: On the regeneration and creativeness of Zhang Tai Yan's viewpoint of traditional-written form language

摘要

如何承繼傳統的語文，至今仍是爭論的議題。清末民初，以「學術泰斗」著稱的章太炎（1868-1936），對於舊文體的變革有他個人的一些見解。本文試從章氏相關的論述，綜理其對傳統語言所展現的識見與實踐，以及如何為傳統書面語找尋發展契機。本主題的論證闡釋，乃就章氏的論著，進行披沙揀金、整理歸納，藉以彰顯章氏轉化傳統語言體制的概況，及所展現的意義與限制，使今人對傳統書面語增多一層體認，俾利於承繼與發展。

Whether we shall continue to adopt the traditional written form language or not, is still essential today. The great master of the traditional Chinese learning, Zhang Tai Yan, possesses his influential viewpoints of traditional written form language. Focusing on his major view, I intend to analyze Zhang's master works and to generalize his opinions of traditional written form language. At first, I try to discover from his works the reason why Zhang insists on writing with traditional written form language. Second, I will illustrate his ideals about why one shall see traditional written form language as precious heritage. Third, I will indicate the possibilities and limits of his viewpoints about traditional written form language in reality. Finally, I will point out the methods he utilizes to transform traditional written form language to a practical expressive tool in modern society. In sum, this paper shows the significance of Zhang's main ideals of traditional written form language.
