The Causal Model Analysis of Residents' Expectancy, Empowerment, Trust, Disaster Prevention Intention and Disaster Preparedness

People around the world may be adversely affected by environmental disasters such as volcanic eruptions, wildfires, storms, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, etc., and may also be exposed to health hazards such as influenza. Therefore, disaster management strategy formulation and cognition are very important for the general public. The goal of risk management is that residents can prepare for the actual situation before the disaster happened and reduce the negative consequences caused by the disaster. This study mainly explores the causal relationships among positive expectancy, negative expectancy, empowerment, trust, disaster prevention intention and disaster preparedness. A total of 1023 valid samples were collected in this study and used confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation models to test hypotheses we established. The results of the study confirmed that: positive outcome expectancy positively influences disaster preparedness; negative outcome expectancy negatively affects disaster preparedness; Residents' empowerment positively affects trust. Trust positively affects disaster prevention intentions. Disaster prevention intention mediates the relationship between trust and disaster preparedness.
