The Relations of Recreational Impacts Perception and Recreational Experience in Black-Faced Spoonbill Conservation Area

Because Chigu area is abundant in natural resources, from October to April every year, when the Black-faced Spoonbill come to Taiwan to winter, millions of visitors at minimum go there bird-watching. The leisure behavior of the visitors is impacting in the natural environment, which has become a secret worry of the whole area. As a result, the purpose of this research is to inspect, from the perspective of visitors, the relation between recreational impact perception and recreational experience in the developing process of ecotourism in the Black-faced Spoonbill reserve. The result has shown that: (1) The ecological environment impacts perception is more seriously affected by noise emission; social physical impacts perception is more severely interrupted by crowdedness caused by excessive tourists; facility managerial impacts perception is more affected by insufficiency of barrier-free space. (2) Interviewed visitors are most satisfied with the professional ability of tour guides while they are least satisfied with the number of garbage bins and their locations. (3) After Canonical Correlation Analysis, significant correlations between recreational impacts perception and recreational experience have been found. Among them, ”insufficient facilities and improper management” of recreational impacts perception have mostly influenced the two factors: ”improvement of resources and convenience” as well as ”tour guidance enhancement and recreational experience enrichment” of recreational experience. We hope that when the administrators are making plans, it is advised that the number of visitors be confined to 500 people a day. Meanwhile, the factors, such as insufficient facilities and improper management in the reserve, should all be taken serious consideration for future plans.
