Based on the functional theory of political campaign discourse, this research attempts to explore the format and content of Taiwan's political comics. A systematic content analysis is designed to examine the message strategies of political comics during the period of the 2004 Legislative Election campaign. A total of 180 samples from 3 leading newspapers: the China Times, the United Daily, and the Liberty Times are analyzed. In sum, the findings demonstrate the three dailies differ regarding the use of negativity in political comic discourse to attack the ruling and opponent parties, which are highly reflective of perspective stands in political arena. Despite similar in the formats, political stands may play a striking role in the practice of the contents of indigenous political comics.
