死心悟新禪師生平及其禪風探討

A Study of Chan Master Sixin Wuxin and His Chan Guide Style

摘要


死心悟新禪師(1043-1115),為臨濟宗黃龍派第二世晦堂祖心禪師之法嗣,乃北宋著名禪師。本文藉由文獻整理,先敘述死心悟新禪師所處之時代背景,介紹禪師生平與其悟道因緣,並釐清相關事跡之年份不清之處,試圖從中得到較可信的結果。接著,探討禪師引領學人之禪風特色。簡而言之,死心為人簡樸誠正,教導弟子時著重實修;處事剛直,常以罵來勘驗學子道心及修行境地;因念佛有助於修定且學人之根性不一,故禪師雖為臨濟宗之黃龍派禪師,亦勸勉弟子多念佛。

The Chan Master Sixin Wuxin (1043-1115), a disciple of Linji Zong Huanglong School Chan Master Huitang Zuxin, is a well-known Chan master of the Northern Song Dynasty. In this paper, through the collation of the literature, we first describe the background of Sixin Wuxin's era, introduce his life and the reason for enlightenment, and clarify the ambiguity of the relevant deeds in an attempt to obtain more reliable results. Then, we discuss the characteristics of his Chan guide style. In short, Sixin Wuxin is very simple and just, and he focuses on practice when teaching his disciples. He was straightforward, often using scolding to examine disciples' morality and practice. Although Sixin Wuxin is a Chan master of Linji Zong, he also advises the disciples to recite - Amitābha's name due to it being conducive to practicing meditation and the different talents of disciples.
