摘要

以事解經是《左傳》特殊之解經方式。然而敘事如何能解經？正是本文所欲探討之問題。面對十八萬五千餘字之《左傳》文本，敘事態度是讀者尋繹作者隱含於文字背後言外之旨的重要觀念，透過對敘事態度之理解與掌握，讀者能較正確的建構出作者之敘事意圖，進而解讀出文字背後之微言之旨。 敘事干預、內容取捨、敘事頻率、敘事模式與敘事結構，是理解作者敘事態度之幾個切入角度。透過「君子曰」、「書曰」等出自史家之干預評論，讀者能明白作者之價值觀與評判標準；透過內容之剪裁與敘述之詳略，讀者能體會史家側重與強調之史觀；對於反覆出現、不斷強調之字詞、觀念或情節模式，讀者能從中見出作者之褒貶與評價；藉由對因果、屬辭、比事等結構之掌握，讀者能解析出隱含於敘事背後之微言要旨。 本文即由顯而隱，分別討論《左傳》敘事態度之表現形式，及其對言外之旨解讀之功能與意義。
