Most of water quality monitoring methods select the samples and analyze them periodically to understand the change of water quality. These methods cannot acquire the real-time pollution which may destroy the aquatic ecosystem or water quality. Therefore, it is necessary to build the real-time water quality monitoring system (RTWQMS). This study uses the wireless sensor network (WSN), general packet radio service (GPRS) and solar energy power supply system to build the RTWQMS which collects the concentration of hydrogen ion(pH), electric conductivity (EC) and dissolved oxygen (DO) in water. This system can be operated by itself steadily without the outer electric power and the fixed communication network. We also installed RTWQMS in Li Ze pond, MingDao University to verify the usefulness. In the future, RTWQMS can quickly be installed in river, reservoir or pond.
