This study explores the development of digital humanities in Taiwan and its practical application in general education, with a specific focus on the integration of digital technology with indigenous cultural revival and industry development. The paper reviews the historical development of digital humanities and emphasizes that with the growing adoption of extended reality, the metaverse, and generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI), Taiwan's digital humanities are poised to enter an innovative new paradigm. Based on the Ministry of Education's "Talent Cultivation Project for Digital Humanities", the study proposes a micro-credit general education program of the revival of indigenous culture and industry development. The course combines humanistic care and digital technologies to assist in preserving and revitalizing the cultures of the Atayal and Saisiyat tribes, while actively promoting the development of their industries. The course design centers on the preservation of indigenous knowledge and culture, as well as the promotion of their distinctive industries, utilizing various digital technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, hologram, extended reality (XR), and the metaverse. The paper also shares reflections from the teaching field, expresses anticipation for the Gen AI era, and discusses future developmental directions for related fields. It argues that digital humanities should not merely be seen as a tool for disciplinary integration but as a critical thinking tool suitable for solving social problems and fostering academic innovation.
