This paper was to explore the discourse of teacher professional association after the Teacher Law had been published in 1995. The paper adopted the methodology of discourse analysis which included textual analysis, discoursive interpretation, and social contextual explanation, to review official reports, newspapers, mass media reports, civil organization publications, and research reports. The results demonstrated the following features for the discourse of teacher profession in Taiwan: i. The discourse of professionalism had created the impression of higher standards of morality for teachers in Taiwan. ii. The discourse of unionism from the teachers' organizations gradually led to the establishments of unions. iii. The indifference of teachers to the teachers' organizations had a great impact on the operations of the organizations. iv. The discourse of teacher professional association formed an opposition between professionalism and unionism.
