The atmosphere of Tehran is hot. People, artists, thinkers are all in a real evolution and reviewing the ideas, the ideals, criticizing and finding solutions. Where the problems are unlimited in a daily struggle, nothing could stop their "reactions," "reflections." Life is visible and visual, so visual arts are reflecting the reality through the images as the mirrors of the life style of the current society. But how are these artistic mediums developing or producing in this country, Iran? There are two ways for making these matters in some of the countries as well as Iran: One which is supported, permitted, produced, distributed and exhibited by the official organizations. Other one is independent, sometimes with no official permission, is auto-produced by the artist or sponsored by the private organizations. For their distribution and screening, these productions could be authorized or not by the decision of government. Fajr film festival is an official film festival which has showed the both faces with or without material supports. Some of the engaged film makers does not participate any more at this festival since last three years and some of other good film makers does still participating at it. It seems that the decisions of these film makers are not similar and their reactions are different. We could imagine that the different restrictions or problems could stop the level of the film productions in Iran. But it seems that the visual arts of the digital cameras are (specifically) highly present at their quotidien life. The economic exchanges with the Asian countries as well as Korea, China, Japan, and the produces fabric at the other countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan, permit to the people to buy with a chip price all sort of the last digital productions present on the market. The machines which make, transfer, and show the "images." And because of the huge need of expressing, the young people find visual digital creations by photography and video arts, are as the best medium for keeping in touch with the world in and out of Iran. Video, documentary films, fiction films, animation films and experimental films as well as the digital photography, are produced perhaps, more than two or three times in a big European country like France, for example in Iran. Why? Because people need more than ever to express themselves to the "other one." Of course the quality of these films are not always interesting but the quantity is sufficient to making "the few" good film makers! People in Iran are thirsty and hanger for images! I am writing this article as a video artist who is living and working "in and out" of the borders, between Iran, Europe and the American continent since 1983. I founded the DID Association in 2005 to promote the dialogue between Iranian artists and the art world beyond the borders of Iran by showing video arts at different festivals, institutions, universities or contemporary art museums specially in Europe. The aim of the DID is to try to create an understanding between similar or different points of view amongst "local," "inside and outside," and "diaspora" artists. DID intends to trigger reflections about the role of video art and its evolution, referring not only to the social situation, but inspiring a way to express the poetic contents beyond limited views. Two years ago DID created a new media studio for teaching video arts (2009-10) at Mahe Mehr Art & Cultural Institution of visual arts in Tehran.
