Recently, the so-called Media Art(s) has been energized in Japan. But, its history is not so clear, though numbers of the artworks and artists have increased. To make its historical development clearer, this paper focuses on an artistic movement of Video Art. It is said to be one of the biggest origins of Media Art(s) as well as Computer Art. Though, comparing Computer Art, Video Art, which uses analogue devices, seems to have lost its influence because of digitalization, we should grasp its historical influence or development to clarify or delineate an aspect of various Media Art(s) histories. To do so, this paper especially picks up and makes clear the relationship between Japanese Video Art and American Video Art from 1960s to 1970s, which was heyday of Video Art that used analogue devices.
