The objective of this study is to assess frailty level among geriatric in-patient's using Rockwood's Frailty Index (FI) score. Patients admitted to the University Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur Geriatrics ward aged 65 and above were enrolled in this study. The deficit accumulation-based FI can evaluate health and its outcome in ageing. Frailty index consisting of 35 health-related variables used in assessing the frailty level and calculated as "0" value for absence of deficits and "1" to indicate its presence. The level of FI was calculated for each individual as the sum of deficits present in the individual divided by 35-the total number of variables considered. Higher FI value representing a greater level frailty. Data analysed using SPSS v20. 104 patients have been recruited with 40.4% male and 59.6% female .The frequency of frailty index score distributed normally (0.34 ±0.11). The mean score of FI among female is 0.35(±0.10) and 0.33(±0.11) in male. There is significant correlation between age and FI score (p=.024, p<.05) with the highest score of FI reported at the age of 90-94 analysed using paired sample T-test. The frailty index score does not exceed 0.56 in any individual. Compare with men, women appeared to be frail after all there is no significant difference between the two genders. The increase of age with the significance of the frailty index represent view of the ageing as the accumulation of deficits with time even though it start escalate slowly at the age of 75.
