Orthognathic surgery for the treatment of facial skeletal deformities, especially in the vertical ramus osteotomy, that needs intermaxillary fixation to bind the maxillary and mandibular teeth together. In such condition, mouth opening was limited for 6 weeks to immobilize both mandibular segments to facilitate bone healing. It will significantly affect the oral hygiene and dietary intake of the patient. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen health education for patients to intake adequate nutrition. Moreover, it also needs to increase the patient self-awareness and the ability in self-care.
