The coordinates of a unknown point can be determined by two individual measured horizontal angle or a three-directions observation set by means of the resection method with theodolites. If the precision of observations in both measurement methods are equivalent, it is shown that the accuracy of positioning by the direction measurement method is in general better. In the paper, we use the position lines to constitute the observation equations and analyze the positioning accuracy by means of the indirect observation adjustment. The positioning accuracy affected by the position lines and zero orientation unknowns is also illustrated by the figures.
