Pharmacological Studies on the Aqueous Leave Extract of Ocimum Gratissimum L.

摘要

Herbal remedies have been used for the prevention and treatment of many diseases by practitioners and pharmacologists globally for thousands of years. The genus Ocimum gratissimum (OG) Linn is a plant with enormous properties for curing and preventing diseases. The leaves of this particular species of basil exposed the presence of polyphenols with antioxidant activity. Over the last decade, numerous papers have focused on the essential oil extracts of the plant. Recently, however, various studies have been performed with the aqueous leave extracts of OG (OGE) for its hepato-protection, anti-lipidemic, cardio-protection, gastrointestinal-protection, neuro-protection, dental-protection, immunomodulation, anti-diabetic, anti-allergic, and anti-cancer effects. This review focuses on the discussion of many pharmacological properties of the aqueous extract of the plant leaves compared to the oil extract.
