Effects of Digoxin and Digitoxin on Cell Viability and Migration in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

摘要

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) had been the fifth most common cancer in men worldwide. Until now, systemic therapy is not effective. Digoxin (DG) and digitoxin (DT), cardiac glycosides and Na^+-K^+-ATPase inhibitors, were traditional drugs for various heart disease therapy. In this study, we examined the anti-cancer effect of DG and DT on cell survival and motility in HCC. Three HCC cell lines, including HA22T, PLC5 and Hep3β, were used in this study. The cell survival was determined by MTT assay and focus formation assay. The cell migration was examined in wound-healing assay. DG and DT significantly decreased cell viability and cell proliferation. The migration ability was inhibited by DG. Our results have indicated anti-cancer effects of DG and DT on HCC cell lines in cell viability and migration. These findings help us to identify a new strategy to treat HCC.
