A Study on Activity Volunteered Divers of Ego Involvement and Willingness in Taking Part in Oceanic Environmental Protection

This study measures the ego involvement and willingness of recreational divers, of their intent in taking part in oceanic environmental protection. Results of which will be submitted to the governmental agencies as a reference in the recruitment for such personnel in the future. Purposive sampling method is performed on the questionnaire. Recreational divers are then compared, through the techniques of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, one-way MANOVA analysis, and α=0.05 assessment, according to their age groups and their ego involvement and willingness in taking part in oceanic environmental protection. (1) Recreational divers are imbued with the idea of oceanic environmental protection and consider it part of their duty to play a role in related work. They also believe that government organizations should work with the diving communities by providing special training courses in order to create a core of professional divers as well as to provide management training. (2) Volunteers over 50 are more motivated than those between 18-20 and therefore acquire relatively higher level of satisfaction than other groups from the diving opportunities involved in oceanic environmental protection. The older age group also used volunteering work more to expand social contacts, and view volunteerism as a means of feeding back to society. The age group 18-20, however, exceeds all others in agreement that business organizations and diving communities should cooperate well, that the former should provide both financial and facility support for better functioning and planning, and that the society in general should do its best to educate people regarding the oceanic ecology. Government organizations should protect the oceanic environment through enacting laws, and organize human resources of society to ensure the effectiveness of that protection, including training of diving volunteers.
