The purpose of this study is to investigate the relations between body mass index (BMI) and other factors amongst adolescents aged 12-18. A semi-structured questionnaire was developed to collect data in six sampling areas (Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Hualien, Taitung). Overall, a total of 740 questionnaires were distributed, and 628 valid questionnaires were returned, resulting in a return rate of 84.9%. Our findings show that there are significant differences in participant's BMI on "gender", "age", and "personal medical history". In addition, eating and exercise behaviors, weekly allowance, and parents' physical shapes have significant positive impacts on adolescent BMI. However, self-obesity cognition has a significant negative impact on participant's BMI. Based on our findings, it is suggested that we can promote the correct health concept through government policies, school and family education, thereby enabling our young generation to have a healthy body and mind.
