By using a granular discrete element model, we evaluate potential landslide and affected areas in Chulin, Baolai Village, Kaoshiung. The study area locates in the upstream area of Meilongxi River, a branch of Laonongxi River. Our modeling result shows that if a landslide event occurred, debris will not rush directly from Meilongxi River into Laonongxi River, but will be likely to damage houses along the valley of Meilongxi River. However, if another potential landslide area, which located on the south-east of the study area, slided simultaneously with the main landslide, the magnitude of landslide could be close to the landslide event in Xiaolin Village of 2009. Landslide debris will rush into Laonongxi River and damage houses on the other bank, then block the river’s passage and form a large dammed lake.
