For students in Taiwan, writing skill is the most difficult part of English competence. They need a lot of training to write good English articles to express their thoughts clearly and appropriately. The purpose of this study was to analyze the errors in college students' English composition and to investigate the problems students encountered while writing in English. Error analysis theory was conducted to the study of errors in students' English writing. All the errors in students' English composition were marked and coded with ATLAS. ti. Then calculated the quantity of the errors in each type and category and qualitative analyzed all the coded errors. Finally the maps of the relationships among the coded errors, and the causes of errors were developed with Interpretive Structure Modeling (ISM). The major problems in English writing are inadequate English knowledge and the interference of Chinese. This article proposes extensive reading, learning by discovery and peer assessment are good ways to improving student's English writing ability.
