並列摘要

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between nursing students' learning styles and their problem solving ability. This study focused on social issues and designed Medical and Biotechnology unit material in a general course. 105 sophomores from five-year junior college in northern Taiwan participated in this study. Pre-posttest quasi-experimental approach was adopted. A problem solving teaching method was applied to the experimental group, while traditional teaching was used in the control group. Kolb's learning style inventory (KLSI) was used to assess each student's preference in acquiring new knowledge and skills. Results show that most nursing students' learning styles are accommodators and divergers; however, they are not good at abstract concepts. Regarding problem solving test, convergers are significantly better than other style learners in 'perceiving the problem'. Problem solving teaching method can effectively help students' divergent thinking. Students accompany to converge learning style perform better in traditional teaching method, while accommodate of them perform better in problem solving teaching method. It is implies that problem solving teaching can facilitate nursing students to their learning achievement. This study further recommends this strategy should be applied to more classes and be analyzed by statistical methods.
