Sustainable Regional Development: Approches for the North East Region-Romania

The Romanian's Development Regions will get soon administrative and executive powers. The reorganization process is aimed to increase the regions competitiveness and to optimize the administrative costs. This paper is focused on a research study made in The North East Region of Development from Romania, which is situated at the bottom of EU Regions ranking, with an average GDP per inhabitant lower than 50 % of the EU-27 average. This region covers an area of 3.684.983 ha representing 15.45% of the total area of the country and from demographically point of view is the first among the eight regions of the country, with a population of 3.700.695 inhabitants in 2012, representing 17.32% of the total population of Romania. Since in this region authorities and decisional factors are still looking for the best practices and solutions for enhancing economic performances, this paper analyzes the current level of development and proposes solution towards a sustainable development.
