Y-Shaped Plate Fixation with Elbow Brace for a Complex Distal Humerus Fracture: A Case Report

Fractures of the distal humerus remain a challenging problem despite advances in technique and implants. Here, we present a patient with a history of left distal humerus fracture with nonunion following a motor vehicle accident who was diagnosed with comminuted fracture of the left distal humerus following another motor vehicle accident, which was complicated with an angulated intramedullary nail. We removed the previous instrumentation and performed open reduction and internal fixation with a Y-shaped plate. After surgery, the patient's elbow was protected with a brace. She recovered well and showed radiographic union at 10 months postoperatively. This outcome demonstrates that Y-shaped plate fixation with an elbow brace can be an alternative treatment for complex distal humerus fractures.
