The thesis is a study of "Hong Kong Naturography" (香港方物志), which was written by Ye Ling-feng (葉靈鳳), a Chinese immigrant writer. After having settled down in Hong Kong for fifteen years, Ye started writing this book. Generally, critics are of the opinion that it was not until the 1970s that Hong Kong native consciousness appeared in the Hong Kong literature. However, was it possible for Ye Ling-feng, who had migrated to HK in 1938, to give the inkling of HK consciousness in "Hong Kong Naturography" through his deep understanding of HK natural environment? If the supposition is positive, could "Hong Kong Naturography" be categorized into the Hong Kong native literature? The thesis discusses the above questions based on the framework of natureoriented literature.
