摘要

「伯理璽天德」作為與“president　”的對等辭彙，是十九世紀的漢語世界裡出現的一個「新名詞」，主要意指民主共和體制的國家元首。檢討「伯理璽天德」的歷史，它作為「新名詞」，在過往的歷史場景裡，曾經取得眾所公認的「共識」意涵，成為「常識」，並且儼如「關鍵詞」一般，產生影響。藉著「伯理璽天德」的個案考察，這等由「新名詞」到「關鍵詞」的歷程／現象，實為值得我們重視的面向。

When ”president” was translated into Chinese in nineteenth century, the most popular word was ”Bolixitiende”(「伯理璽天德」). This essay focuses on how ”Bolixitiende” as a ”new term” was created, circulated and finally disappeared. Telling the story of ”Bolixitiende” in nineteenth century China, we can find the process of how a ”new term” played the role of ”keyword.”
